How To Use AI For Personal Branding: A Beginner's Guide (Part One)

Programs like Notion and Chat GPT are rapidly changing the way people build their personal brands. I see it every day. What took folks weeks, now takes them a matter of seconds. Writing email sequences has never been easier. Knowing what to post on LinkedIn has never been less of a mystery. Crafting compelling blog posts takes less time than ever before.

As a Personal Brand Strategist, I use AI often. I also encourage my clients to use it. But let's step back for a second.

What is it? How does one access it? Who's in control of it? And how can we use this feature in a way that's ethical?

Today's bulletin is "part one" of a three-part series. Note: I am not an AI expert. What I hope to offer you are my insights as a Personal Brand Strategist who uses AI to create content daily. I will share my firsthand experience of how AI has affected the creator culture and what we can do to harness this incredible tool ethically and responsibly.

Buckle up, let’s dive in.

What is AI?

AI is computer software that’s designed to think like humans do. It detects patterns in information and uses those patterns to complete tasks. For instance, it can help you come up with a personal brand strategy or create content for social media.

Basically, it hunts down information from numerous sources like the internet, books, and even social media to generate copy, solve problems and answer questions.

Where Does the Information Come From?

Think of a sprawling library, but instead of books, it's filled with websites, articles, images and videos, etc. AI analyzes this information and learns from it. The more information it has, the smarter it gets.

How Do You Use It?

Here's how I, and my clients, use AI to help build our personal brands:

Strategy: You can ask hyper-specific questions about your personal brand and it can provide a custom, tailored strategy designed for you. It can also help you determine the content you should be posting, how often, and at what time.

Content Creation — AI will brainstorm topics, analyze trends, and even write catchy headlines. I use it to help me write subject lines for emails all the time!

Formatting — Use AI to help you format original ideas and opinions into compelling blog posts or articles. Sometimes, you may have an idea but lack a clear way to structure that idea into a compelling post or article, AI can help with that, too.

Editing — I always encourage my clients to have someone edit their posts. AI can do that for you, as well as improve the quality of the posts you've already drafted.

Where Can I Get Access to AI?

My preferred way of using AI is through Notion. Out of all the AI tools I've tried, it feels the most natural and user-friendly. I have also used Chat GPT and Gemini.

What are Some of the Positives and Negatives of Using AI?

Stay tuned for next week's Bulletin where I'll discuss the ethics of using AI and what to consider while incorporating it into your content creation practice.

Personal Branding Tip

Sign up for Notion and start playing around with its AI feature.

Use this prompt to get started:

If you want to copy and paste it, here you go:

“Hi, my name is {Your Name}. I’m a {Your Title} and my mission is to {x}. I would define my personality as {Characteristics of Your Personality}. My values are {X}. My goals for using social media are { Goal 1}, {Goal 2}, and {Goal 3}. I have {x} amount of hours to create content per week. My favorite platforms are {x}, and the kind of content I like to create is {x.} Based on this information, what would you say a good Personal Brand Strategy for me would be? Can you please provide specific examples for each platform? How often should I post and when?
