How to Craft a Powerful Personal Brand Statement
Crafting a personal brand statement is one of the most important things you can do for yourself as you begin to think about building your personal brand. It’s a quick synopsis that offers your audience a taste of who you are, what you do, and the value of what you do. This will be a powerful tool that you can keep in your back pocket as your standing in an elevator, at your next networking event, and even as the beginning of your next ‘about me’ section or biography.
You will use variations of this personal brand statement across social platforms and websites. But remember, context is key. Tailor your statement depending on the nature of the platform. Your length, tone, and inflection will also vary if you are speaking with an audience versus when it’s presented on a screen.
Your personal brand statement needs to hit 3 main points.
What you do
How you do it uniquely
Who you seek to serve
Here’s an example of mine:
“As a personal brand strategist, (what I do) I guide self-starting professionals (who I seek to serve) to convey their personal story in a way that moves decision-makers. (how I do it uniquely).”
Now, you’ll find variations of this statement on my website, LinkedIn, Quora, Medium, etc.. In some places I may choose to keep it shorter or add more text to make it longer. Although the key message always stays the same.
While writing your personal brand statement, think back to the four things you’ve already decided before building your personal brand. Not sure what those are? This post will help you.
