How to do things (Really well) that you don't want to do

I get asked quite a few questions about productivity. As an entrepreneur (or for anyone working from home right now) it can be tough to be your own boss, organize your schedule and stay on top of everything.

It took me months to settle into a solid routine where I felt efficient and accomplished at the end of my day, but I promise you it can be done.

Once you’ve unlocked those qualities of discipline and self-control, you can achieve absolutely anything.

Do you ever feel like…

You’re always scrambling at the list minute to meet deadlines?

You need to wait until *inspiration strikes* in order to do your best work?

You let impulses or feelings dictate your decision-making?

Uhhuh, me too. I have checked all three of those boxes countless times.

Although as my business has continued to grow this year, I’ve started to realize that my *real* superpower is in doing the things I *don’t* want to do and doing them well.

Without resisting.

The key here is to become PROACTIVE instead of REACTIVE.

When you master this principle, it’s insanely liberating. And since this is a healthy self-discipline that actually comes from yourself, it supports your freedom and individuality (my favorite things muahaha).

Here are some tips to help you stop procrastinating and handle your shiza:

Whatever you have to do, be there totally.

If you honestly have no choice but to do the work in front of you, the best thing you can do is stop resisting it and be there totally. To resist something is another way of saying you do not accept what *is*.  Even if we may feel frustrated with our current reality, the only way it’s going to change is if we embrace the present and take actionable steps to move through it. When we deny the present moment, we are actually welcoming more suffering into our life. When we say ‘yes’ to the present moment we free ourselves from pain.

Be radically okay with the way things are.

You might wish things were different… That’s okay. Name the feeling that is making you uncomfortable. If I’m feeling lonely or frustrated, I literally say it out loud. “I’m lonely.”

Suddenly, the feeling loses its power and I can move forward.

If you have a hard time identifying your emotions, think about where you feel it in your body. Once you’re able to identify the physical component you can acknowledge it.

You are able to detach from the emotion and become the observer, allowing yourself to become fully aware.

You get to choose your own thoughts (imagine that).

Once you’ve decided to be present and accept things the way they are, you can actually choose the kind of attitude you want to have about the things you don’t want to do.

Suddenly, it’s not I *have* to write this blog post, it’s more like, ‘How awesome is it that I get to share my knowledge with people who find this stuff useful?’

The ability to choose our thoughts requires self-awareness and the ability to disidentify our minds from our conditioned patterns of thinking.

When we are able to do that, we are able to live a life of choice, not requirement.

These are some tips that have really been helping me over the last few weeks! I encourage you to give them a try And if you want to learn more, read “The Power of Now” by Eckhart Tolle.
